Week 2 Blog 5243

  1. Work within the feedback groups provided for the course, to partner with a peer. Working with that peer identify an area of weakness with regard to technology use aligned with the research-based technology integration framework you have identified (week1) AND the ISTE Standards for Educators and Students.

  1. In collaboration with your peer, develop the peer’s SMART Goal to address the area of need. Suggestion: Focus on a goal that could be addressed in no more than 1 or 2 semesters.

My peer Carissa teaches in a virtual school setting, and one challenge observed is limited student collaboration. In an effort to support students, my peer is focusing on learning how to use Padlet as a tool to help students work together more effectively in their content areas by the end of the semester.

Smart Goal: Carissa’s goal is to learn how to use Padlet to create meaningful learning interactive activities through efforts on student collaboration. The goal is to design at least one collaborative assignment on a weekly basis that helps students work together on content-related tasks, and to complete this goal by the end of the semester.

  • Specific: Learn how to use Padlet and create activities where students work collaboratively.

  • Measurable: Complete one activity each week makes it easy to keep track of progress.

  • Achievable: Learn how to use Padlet and make one student activity each week during the first semester.

  • Relevant: Matches the ISTE goal of designing learning activities and helps students work together.

  • Time-bound: Finish by the end of the first semester.

  1. Outline 3-5 action steps to support your peer in the attainment of the SMART goal.

How the Action Steps Support my peer’s goal

  • Learn how Padlet works, to start making useful learning activities.

  • Show students how to use Padlet so they can work well together

  • Make a simple Padlet activity to help meet the weekly goal, and get students working together.

  • Use Padlet to support class projects, helping students learn through meaningful activities

  • Review each activity with the students to see what worked well, and make improvements for the activities that will need more help for next time

2. How does the technology integration framework you have identified as appropriate to your context support the attainment of the SMART goal?  How does this framework inform the action steps you have outlined?

My peer’s goal is to learn how to use Padlet to create weekly activities that help students work together on class assignments. According to Kolb (2011), the Triple E Framework supports this by showing how technology can improve learning.

SMART goal aligns perfectly with the Triple E Framework below

  • Engaging students through interactive collaboration using padlet in real time

  • Enhancing learning by using Padlet to support deeper thinking and understanding

  • Extending learning into real-world contexts, so that students can apply what they learn in a meaningful way

3. Which Student and Educator ISTE Standards are addressed in the SMART Goal and action steps you have outlined?

The ISTE Standards for Students (2025) and the ISTE Standards for Educators (2025) that address the SMART goal and action plan are the following:

ISTE Student Standards

  • 1.6 Creative Communicator
Students use Padlet to share ideas, give feedback, and work together. This helps them express their thoughts clearly and creatively using a digital tool.

ISTE Educator Standards

  • 2.1 Learner
The teacher learns how to use a Padlet to improve their teaching. This shows the teacher is open to new ideas and tools that help improve student learning.

  • 2.5 Designer
The teacher creates weekly Padlet activities that help students work together on class topics. These activities make learning more engaging and meaningful.

4. Reflect upon this process as a facilitator of peer learning. Which of the Coach or Educational Leader ISTE Standards did you address?  Discuss your insights. How might the Essential Conditions also support this work?

As a facilitator in peer learning, supporting my peer in aligning their SMART goal to Kolb’s Triple E Framework and ISTE’s Student and Educator Standards, while also touching on the ISTE Coach Standards (2025) and educational leader ISTE standards, supports their goals and successful technology integration.

ISTE Coach Standard 3: Collaborator

I collaborated with my peer to find a tech challenge, and establish a smart goal while taking action steps. This peer learning helped both of us learn, and feel more confident, by finding an area of weakness and then, creating smart goals to improve on student collaboration.

ISTE Coach Standard 1: Change Agent

By helping my peer use Padlet, and connecting it to ISTE and the Triple E Framework, it encouraged creative and meaningful use of technology in the classroom.

ISTE Educational Leader Standard 2: Visionary Planner

By helping with planning that promotes innovative and purposeful technology use, it helps sustain digital learning initiatives.

My insights gained from this process  of helping my colleague improve their SMART goals by showing them how to use technology in more meaningful ways, was from the support of two ISTE Coach Standards: Change Agent and a Collaborator.

Using Kolb’s (2011) Triple E Framework and ISTE Standards gave us a clear plan and helped us think more deeply about how technology can support learning and provide equitable access. Our collaboration and reflections helped us plan more effectively as we worked toward the goal of using Padlet to support student collaboration.

The ISTE’s Essential Conditions (2025) support this work of learning and collaborating together by sharing SMART goals and exploring Padlet. Our shared vision on student collaboration was guided by ISTE and Triple E frameworks. Padlet was a good choice because it was easy to use and worked well for all students, making it equitable and accessible.

  1. I think this is a really important GOAL (just from my experience with teaching during the Pandemic... peer collaboration is difficult). I really like how you and Carissa connected Padlet to the Triple E Framework, it gives a clear example of “engage, enhance, extend” in action. I think your action steps are practical and student-centered, especially the piece about reviewing each activity with students to improve the next one. That kind of reflection ties so well to both ISTE standards and Danielson’s focus on continuous improvement. I also like how you kept the SMART goal realistic with one activity per week... doable but still impactful for student collaboration in a virtual setting. Good work!

  2. Brad,
Good job. You and Carissa appear to have broken the task into reasonable action steps that work towards accomplishing the goal. I also like how you applied the Triple E framework. The only question that i may have asked is whether Carissa already knows Padlet. If not, is there a timeframe by which she would learn to use Padlet and teach the students to use Padlet before making weekly activities? Does that happen during the first few weeks, then weekly activities begin? I think the overall goal is still achievable within the one semester timeframe, though and works well overall.

  3. This is an excellent goal to focus on. Through virtual schooling collaboration among students is always something I've wondered about. A padlet is a great tool for students and the teachers to contribute to an enhanced learning environment. The Triple E Framework is spot on for ensuring that the tools used are doing what the teacher intended. This is also a very realistic and achievable goal, by limiting it to one activity a week students and teacher will not become overwhelmed and success is more possible.
